Bombay Oxygen Corporation was incorporated on October 3, 1960 at Mumbai, with an objective to manufacture oxygen and acetylene. The company has been promoted by S M Ruia.
The company has six plants located at Mulund, Kalwe, Nagpur, Pune, Nira, Tarapur and Khopoli, all in Maharashtra.
The Company entered into a technical collaboration agreement with General Electrodes & Equipment Ltd in 1976, who were the partners of Griesheim GmbH the well-known firm of West Germany in gas industry for the production and supply of industrial gases in Maharashtra and other parts of India.
In 1980 the Company entered into a long-term agreement with Polychem for the supply of oxygen and nitrogen gases through pipeline to their vinyl acetage monomer factory at village Nimbut Pune district.
Bombay Oxygen Corporation has sold its 10-acre plot, on LBS Marg in Mulund, for over Rs 200 crore or approximately Rs20 crore an acre to Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL).
