HEG was incorporated 1972 as Hindustan Electro-Graphites. The company is amongst the leading graphite electrode manufacturer in India. The company owns one of the largest integrated graphite electrode plants in South-East Asia that processes sophisticated UHP (Ultra High Power) Electrodes.
HEG is a flagship company of LNJ Bhilwara group. HEG exports over 80% of its production to more than 25 countries that includes USA, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Australia and South Korea.
Company has clientele including majors such as ArcelorMittal, Posco, ThyssenKrupp, US Dynamics, Nucor, Severstal and Usinor to name few. Company has employee strength of 1100 people.
Research and Development
HEG also has a dedicated R&D Set-up for Carbon and Graphite. Company operates a separate R&D facility which focuses on working on the developmental projects as well as the projects to sustain and improve the competitiveness of the company. This company’s facility has entered into collaboration with well known organisation such as IIT ( Indian Institute of Technology) Kanpur, RRL (Regional Research Laboratory, CSIR) Bhopal, CEFES (Center for Environment, Fire and Explosive Safety), New Delhi, are amongst others.
Graphite Electrode- Being the core business, this division accounts for 80% of the revenue. In 1977 company entered into a technical and financial collaboration with Societe Des Electrodes Et Refractaires Savoie (SERS), a subsidiary of Pechiney of France. Company’s manufacturing facility is located at Mandideep (Madhya Pradesh). At present, Mandideep has an aggregate production capacity of 60,000 TPA. Company has set up a Coal Based 25 MW captive Power Plant in the year 2005.
Power- Company has set up group’s first hydropower project having power producing capacity of 13.5 MW. This facility is located at Hoshanabad (Madhya Pradesh).
In 1992 HEG set up a coal based sponge iron division with SIIL technology (basically SL/RN process from Lurgi, Germany). This Steel Plant has a captive power of 12.8 MW capacity.
Carbon Speciality- Under this HEG operates division namely activated carbon fabric (ACF), Carbon Blocks and Graphite Specialties. ACF is a highly porous in nature and used in forms such as granular, palletised, powdered and moulded. ACF has application in Air-conditioner filters, Air purifying filters, Clean rooms, all other types of pollution control filters, Refrigerator deodouriser and Cigarette filters Company manufactures Fine Grain Carbon Blocks on special orders. Company’s Graphite Specialties division manufactures graphite products in specific sizes and shapes as customer requirements.
LNJ Bhilwara Group (Parent Company)LNJ Bhilwara Group was established in 1961 as textile mill located at Bhilwara, Rajasthan. It was founded by L. N. Jhunjhunwala. Today the group has diversified in business such as textiles, graphite electrodes, power and IT.
New DevelopmentsHEG is expanding its captive power generation capacity by 33 MW by investing Rs. 90 crore. Any surplus in power the company plans to sell the State Electricity Board.
Company also plans to increase its graphite electrode capacity to 80,000 TPA, by way of brownfield expansion and de-bottlenecking of the existing capacities, this project requires a capital cost of Rs. 190 crore.
