Reliance Natural Resources was incorporated on March 24, 2000 as Reliance Platforms Communications.com Private Limited. The name of the Company was thereafter changed to Reliance Energy Private Limited on January 3, 2003; Reliance Wattage Private Limited on January 16, 2003 and the status of the Company was changed to public limited company on July 25, 2005. The name of this company was thereafter changed to Reliance Fuel Management Limited on August 3, 2005; Global Fuel Management Services Limited on August 10, 2005 and finally to Reliance Natural Resources Limited on January 9, 2006. The registered office of RNRL is situated at H Block, 1st Floor, Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City, Navi Mumbai 400 710, India.
Anil Ambani Group on July 4, 2010 had announced the merger between RNRL and another group firm, Reliance Power, in an all-stock deal. The arrangement was that Reliance Power would give one of its shares for every four held in RNRL. This share swap ratio of 4:1

Reliance Natural Resources (RNRL) is engaged in exploration, development and production of oil and gas and sourcing and supply of gas and coal. The company is part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.It is the second largest Coal Bed Methane (CBM) player in India acreage wise. RNRL is a company in the business of sourcing, supply and transportation of gas, coal and liquid fuels and has rights to significant estimated gas reserves in the KG Basin. The company is concentrating on building a strong foundation for the business of fuel management and has already established itself as a contending player in the Indian market. RNRL is actively pursuing business opportunities in the supply management of coal and natural gas.
RNRL has been awarded four CBM blocks, with an acreage of about 3,251 sq. kms, for the exploration and production of coal bed methane (CBM), making it the second largest CBM player in India in terms of acreage. The Company has applied for Petroleum Exploration License ( PEL ) for all four blocks to the Governments of the concerned States. The company has received the PEL for two blocks(Barmer 4&5) located in Rajasthan for which operations have commenced.
RNRL has also been awarded an oil and gas block with acreage of about 3,619 Sq. Kms. in the state of Mizoram under the sixth round of the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP–VI) for the exploration and production of oil and gas. The Company has received PEL for this block and has commenced exploration activities.
